Service Description

Whether you're a beginner eager to explore the world of ceramics or an experienced potter seeking to enhance your skills this course is for you. The aim of this four week course is to take you through the basics of throwing simple forms on the wheel, trimming and refining them and then finally glazing them. Week 1: Introduction to Pottery Wheel Techniques In the first week, students will be introduced to the fundamental concepts of pottery and the pottery wheel. You'll learn the basics of preparing clay, centering it on the wheel, and forming basic shapes. For more experienced potters, week one will focus on refining your basic skills and gaining confidence through guided demonstrations and hands-on practice. Week 2: Developing Thrown Forms. Building upon the skills acquired in the previous week, the second week will focus on throwing larger forms and achieving the control over the shapes you are creating on the wheel. We will go over how to trim your pieces on the wheel and how to tell if your clay is the right consistency for trimming. Week 3: Finalising Forms In week three we will focus on refining the work you have already made in the previous two weeks ready for firing. Week 4: Glazing In the final week of the course we will take your fired pieces and add glazes to them. We will go through how to apply glaze to ceramics and you will choose from our selection of house glazes to apply to your work. By the end of the four-week pottery course, you will have gained confidence on the throwing wheel and also have a selection of up to 10 glazed pottery pieces to take home with you. (Please note that it will take a few weeks after the end of your course for you pieces to be processed and fired before they can be collected.)
